Training course on advanced GIS applications


This
advanced training course has been given at YSUAC in Yerevan from 7th to 18th of November 2011. The training program has been prepared and implemented by Prof. Dr. Dietrich Schröder and Ole Mensing from Hochschule für Technik Stuttgart (HFT), Germany.

All partner universities had sent participants to the course with 32 particpants in total:

  • Lviv National Polytechnic University (4 participants)

  • Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture (2 participants)

  • Technical University of Moldova (3 participants)

  • Tiraspol State University (3 participants)

  • Yerevan State University (6 participants)

  • Yerevan State University of Architecture and Construction (6 participants)

  • Armenian State Agrarian University (6 participants)

 The training course used a task and project based approach. Overall, six different projects have been handled covering different fields of application and different key aspects of GIS, in detail:

  • Smart Tourism Map of Armenia with focus on advanced map symbology and ArcGIS Network Analyst

  • Bivariate Statistical Analysis for Landslide Hazard Zonation Mapping with focus on ArcGIS Spatial Analyst

  • Location Selection in Environmental Studies with focus on geoprocessing with ArcGIS ModelBuilder

  • Terrain Analysis for Flash Flood Hazard Zonation with focus on ArcGIS Hydrology and Surface toolboxes

  • Hydrological Analysis for a Dam Construction Project including 3D-visualization with ArcScene

  • Real Estate Management for Yerevan with focus on database design and geocoding

 


During the training course, participants also attended the opening ceremonies of the GIS Laboratories at YSUAC and ASAU, established through the GIDEC project. In addition, some participants have joined the curriclum meeting on November 18-19th and the project management meeting on November 19th.
